I have come across a few of these recently, I love them all, painstakingly handworked but I wrestled with what we'd use them for today. Was struck by ingenious idea - bread proving covers. So many of us make our own bread - sourdough takes a lifetime. These handy covers fit our banneton basket perfectly! So much better than evil clingfilm.
This one is so glorious. Really magnificent cross stitch on beautifully heavy linen. Such a lovely thing. Small mark near one poppy but I only noticed it after looking at it for ages. I'd say its pretty old. Textiles like this are hard to date.
