We are not experts in Staffordshire Wally dogs and this is our first pair. What a truly lovely pair they are though! All the reading we have done leads us to believe that they are likely to be from the late 1800's as they don't have holes in the base; so are highly likely to be press moulded rather than the later slip moulds of the 20th Century versions.
Ours have crazing to the glaze commensurate with age and are very prettily painted. No makers mark - this is a positive factor, one of the rare times it is, and small firing holes to the back. One has an old hairline crack down the back as pictured - not uncommon given the length of time we think they have been around. Both have a little wear to the paint in places. No chips though.
There are some very high prices out there as they are having a resurgence at the moment. We have priced these very fairly we believe. A superb gift ~ should your mind be turning to gifts.
